Metabolic Therapy
Our sick-care system is broken. Managing chronic diseases driven by lifestyle is a flawed concept. Metabolic therapy—and reversing conditions rather than managing decline—is the future.
BRETT SMITH
Different expressions of one continuing idea: ask better questions, understand the context, and help people see a more capable path forward.
BOOKS IN DEVELOPMENT
These working titles represent three connected bodies of work. The imagery is provisional while the manuscripts and final covers continue to develop.

SPEAKING & EDUCATION
Brett Smith brings nearly four decades of experience across health, risk management, employee benefits, metabolic health, and human behavior to conversations that challenge familiar assumptions without losing the people in the room.
Available for wellness, human resources, employee-benefit, and health conferences as both a keynote speaker and an educator in concurrent sessions.
THE CONNECTED BUSINESS
Employer healthcare began with assumptions that shaped the questions we asked, the solutions we purchased, and the outcomes we learned to accept.
Better Questions for Benefits will help employers, benefit leaders, and advisors examine those assumptions—and ask what becomes possible when health strategy begins with a clearer understanding of chronic disease and human biology.
Are we still purchasing chronic-disease management—the buggy whip of benefit strategies—when the new frontier is reversing conditions or, at minimum, dramatically improving them?
We have not fundamentally changed strategy since managed care became all the rage in the late 1980s—and that outdated model helped create the problem we face today. Better Questions defines a new frontier: helping people move from lifelong chronic-disease management toward meaningful improvement and reversal. Some participants can move from high-cost chronic-disease claimants to the cost profile of a healthy individual within the first year. The opportunity then compounds as more people follow—dramatic improvement in years one and two, broader population impact in years three to five, and increasingly substantial cost reduction across years five to ten.
For decades, benefit strategy has managed diagnoses, vendors, and claims as separate problems. Better questions begin by examining the assumptions beneath the system.
