BRETT’S STORY
The Questions Changed Everything
A career in healthcare, risk management, predictive modeling, a personal metabolic transformation, and an investigation that became My Metabolic Life and Better Questions for Benefits.

After decades across health insurance, pharmaceutical sales, corporate wellness, disease management, predictive modeling, and population health, Brett Smith encountered a possibility the systems around him rarely discussed: many people were improving conditions they had been told would only progress.
In late 2018, that question became personal. As Brett began metabolic restoration, the changes arrived on different timelines—not after the weight loss was complete. He reports that arthritis, tennis elbow, and plantar fasciitis resolved within weeks, when he had lost only a small amount of weight. His first blood test, two to three weeks into the process, showed improvement across multiple health markers.
Over the following months, Brett reports that his tinnitus, metabolic syndrome, and benign prostatic hyperplasia resolved as his metabolic health continued to change. Some progress was not visible at the time. He did not yet know that he had heart disease; approximately a year later, testing suggested that restoration had already been underway. Across the same journey, he lost 115 pounds in nine months.

The visible transformation took nine months. Some of the most meaningful changes began within the first few weeks, before substantial weight loss had occurred.
My Metabolic Life grew from the investigation that followed. Its purpose is not to hand people another rigid answer. It is to help them understand their biology, ask better questions, evaluate evidence, and create the conditions in which healing may become possible.
