I never thought I would find myself becoming an Activist. But here I am.

In 2018, my life changed in many ways. I suddenly realized that the institutions I believed in were not working for the population. In fact, it didn't matter what party was in the White House or controlled either chamber of Congress. We continued down the same path, oblivious to the reality staring us in the face.

Upton Sinclair once said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it."

I have worked in the Health Insurance, Pharma, Corporate Wellness, and Disease Management industries. While we realized that the population was becoming more obese and typically riddled with multiple chronic conditions, we just couldn't see the elephant in the room.

Doctors were taught that people are lazy and can't change. We went from virtually no fitness facilities 60 years ago to one on every other corner. For 60 years, we fell for the calories in, calories out mantra like it was gospel. We just assumed that some people can control themselves. Until we found ourselves with 93% of the population not meeting the definition of metabolically healthy.

And suddenly, I woke up. The elephant in the room is Metabolic Health. As a population, we have unknowingly left our native human metabolism of defaulting to burning fat our modern processed foods dietary patterns flipped us into a new metabolic state of Sugar burning. Instead of defaulting to using our stored body fat as our default metabolism, our body now looks for glucose first.

Many adaptations come along with being a sugar burner:

hunger every couple of hours, resulting in the new word 'hangry" the mind becomes obsessed with our next meal or snack fasting for a religious event, which used to be easy, seems like cruel and unusual punishment we are now on a blood sugar roller coaster, spiking our glucose, and as a result, our insulin levels this results in our bodies becoming insulin resistant, which is the first stage of every chronic condition we now have a large portion of the population both overweight and suffering from malnutrition at the same time

We all deserve to live in our native metabolism and reap the health benefits. We are demanding more.
